Abstract

The study of pathology of cardiac valves in patients with infective endocarditis submitted to surgical treatment or in patients who died and were submitted to necropsy, the relationship between pathology findings, clinical data, antimicrobial treatment and prognosis are of interest for treatment of patients.The objective of this study is to evaluate histological findings in cardiac valves of patients with infective endocarditis and who were operated upon and in patients that died and were submitted to necropsy. We will study patients with 860 episodes of infective endocarditis from October 1978 to December 2007 to evaluate the finding of microorganisms, the nature and the intensity of the inflammatory infiltrate relative to clinical, antimicrobial treatment and follow-up data.
