Abstract

In this project we intend to analyze, under the aesthetic and musicological perspective, the work Quaderno (2005), for solo marimba and electronic processing in real time, composed by Flo Menezes. The piece was commissioned by the percussionists Eduardo Leandro and Ricardo Bologna, members of the Duo Context. This analysis will reveal the archetypes and harmonic entities that constitute the structural basis of the composition, as well the study of their constitutions and other electronic changes that occur along the same. Allied to this, it will be verified the use of characteristic compositional techniques by Flo Menezes, such as cyclic modules and proportional projections to then study the directionality of the work plan and how it was written. Considering that the aesthetics and techniques of the composer are unique and of peculiar use, the main materials to be used on the research are his manuscripts, books and articles written by him that demonstrate relevance to the topic. It will be used also bibliography of musical analysis of the XX and XXI centuries. We intend to contribute to the area of Musical Analysis and the understanding of percussion pieces by brazilian composers, considering that the investigator has idiomatic knowledge of the marimba and has a long-standing contact with the work and musical ideas of this composer.
