Abstract

Technology development in turbomachinery is fundamental to the Brazilian industry development and the Laboratory of Environmental and Thermal Engineering (LETE) from the Polythecnic School of the University of São Paulo has been engaged in this purpose. This project is intended to develop a compressor for a small gas turbine, which will generate 500 kW, first step in the design and construction of the whole gas turbine. The preliminary design will be made using thermodynamical analysis, statistical compilations to determine configuration, semi-empirical methods such as velocity triangles with basic equations. Detailed analysis will be carried using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), seeking design optimization, which will be interactive. Besides from a compressor that fits our requirements, it is expected to generate knowledge and expertise in the performance of turbomachinery. (AU)
