Abstract

This research project aims at investigating how marriage is figured in the novel Pride and Prejudice (1813) by Jane Austen. The literary text was chosen due to its repercussion on English Literature context besides being a literary classic as well as written from a feminine perspective. The main purpose will be to demonstrate how marriage was built in the novel and how it developed and changed in that society. Thus,this research will try to show the importance the cultural and historical context had for marriage as an institution, considering also the social, political and economicalcharacteristics of that time. In this way, this research proposes an aesthetical analysislinked to the historical and social study of the context of this text production and willalso point to a review of the naturalized concept of marriage.
