Abstract

The buffalo is an activity growing in Brazil and is seen as a viable option for national livestock. The major driver of the buffalo in Brazil has been the production of milk, which is valued by dairy products due to its higher yield in the industrialization of the cow's milk. The production of meat suffers from a lack of coordination of the chain and lack of product knowledge by consumers. Two states stand out in buffaloes in Brazil: Para, having the largest herd, and Sao Paulo, the largest milk producer and consumer of their products. Estimates indicate that production of buffalo milk in the State of São Paulo is insufficient to meet even the demand of the metropolitan area of the capital. The analysis of competitiveness of production chains is useful for businesses and the public. Companies can adjust to best serve the market with resulting gains a better coordination. For the government, the competitive analysis allows you to establish public policies that improve the efficiency of the chain as a whole. The purpose of this study is to assess the competitiveness of the productive chain of buffalo in the State of Sao Paulo with a focus on establishing business strategies for improving the competitiveness of the chain.
