Abstract

Introduction: Perinatal examination is based on several data related to physical examination, in which it is included weight, height, cephalometry (PC), binaural distance (DBA), anteroposterior distance (APD) and fontanella size. The girth has been used to compose the cast of anthropometric markers able to predict some point of growth and development of the newborn. Objective: To describe the relationship between cephalometry, girth and relate it to the respiratory distress in a newborn intensive care unit (ICU)and to describe the ratio between the cephalometry and girth. Method: I will be conducted a cross-sectional study with retrospective collection of data on the newborn care, from primary information in electronic database (BED) of the Department of Neonatology, Hospital Municipal de Diadema, SP, inserted in the period January 2044 to August 2008. Data collection will be held during July to December. It will be excluded infants who died and those with incomplete data in BED.
