Abstract With the proclamation of the Republic, a new ideal of development guided the transformation of cities. Major urban centers to the farthest corners of the country the order was moralize, clean and sanitize the urban space in the name of progress. In addition to the architecture of cities, the behavior of city dwellers should also adapt to changing times. Not only the behavior in the sense of urbanity, but also habits and perceptions of policies to guarantee the permanence of an elite then in consolidation. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the process of urban development in the municipality of Campo Grande, with emphasis on the norms established by the Code of Postures (1905), in maintaining order with the installation of Quarters (1921), the arrival of progress with the railroad tracks (1914) and in the dissemination of certain political cultures for the maintenance of the government groups who resisted the arrival of different characters in the city, they are economically disadvantaged people or not. The first (the poor) should, even in this elite view, to conform to the subordination and the second (potential investors) on behalf of stay in that territory and social ascension, were called upon to adapt to local authorities. As the population that was already there the idea was to get the same behavior is considered more appropriate to the Republic. The conclusion of this process occurred with the publication of the Album of Campo Grande (1939) who propagated the city as a space civilized, orderly and hygienic, while the outsiders who supervised about who owned the power and what areas they could occupy. | |
