Abstract

The rigid internal fixation systems are widely used in surgery maxillo-facial, mainly for treatment of mandibular fractures for over 15 years. And despite having become the standard form of treatment for this type of fracture, this material can fail due to excessive load received, the introduction of risk during the surgical procedure, process failure of adaptation and fixation of the plate to the bone, the design the material, in manufacturing, and the degree of purity of the material of the plate or screw. However, the literature is poor on studies to determine the causes of failure of the material. Fractography is the interpretation of the characteristics observed fracture surfaces in order to establish the cause of the failure. The fractographic analysis of plates and screws used in surgery oral-maxillo-facial should be performed in order to understand the process of material failure and consequently result in material improvements - with respect to the manufacturing process, and the design process finish-allowing the reduction of failures and consequently the success of tratamento.Este work aims to make a fractographic analysis by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) system with 2.0 mm screw locking system. Data will be analyzed in the SAS statistical analysis program (SAS Institute Inc., Cary NC, USA). You will then be applied to analysis of variance (ANOVA) One-way and then the Tukey test with significance level of 5% (a = 0.05) for the comparison between the mean and standardization between the groups.
