Abstract

In recent years blood transfusion has been increasingly used in veterinary medicine. Therefore, it is necessary to understand and develop techniques to measure the quality and viability of the blood collected until the moment of transfusion. This present study aims to evaluate ten bags of whole blood and concentrated erythrocyte from healthy dogs collected and stored under refrigeration containing CPDA-1 for 49 days, it will be valued at eight times with an interval of seven days between each time. At each moment the viability of erythrocytes will be carefully evaluated by the laboratory tests concerning the assessment of red blood cells including the measurement of free hemoglobin, packed cell volume, hemoglobin, erythrocyte, 2,3 - Diphosphoglycerate and determination of erythrocytic indices. The results will be statistically analyzed and compared in order to assess the viability of the erythrocytes contained in bags of whole blood and concentrated erythrocyte stored between 4 and 8 oC during the period of 49 days.
