Abstract

This research project intends to study part of the production by some key American filmmakers (Buster Keaton,Orson Welles, Jules Dassin, Robert Altman and John Sayles) in order to identify a tradition in American film that is characterized by: (1) the attempt to establish productive relationships with elements of the epic theater within the institutional, political and artistic pressures of the American industrial production; and (2) the attempt to modify working procedures in order to accomplish those goals.
