Abstract The project is aimed to identify in Othello and Iago, main characters from Shakespeare's tragedy Othello, the human typological aspects under the sight of two matrices: the elements of the astrologic symbolism (fire, earth, air and water) and the human finalities described by Aristotle (honor, wealth, wisdom and corporal pleasure). In order to achieve it, besides approaching reference works, this investigation foresee some comparison between relevant studies about Othello and some specific characteristics of the Elizabethan theatre that make connection with the hermetic knowledge.
