Abstract The increase in the number of people impacted by natural and man made disasters has required more efforts of humanitarian organizations. To ensure the efficient allocation of resources, decision support tools may help the establishment of an optimal strategy for humanitarian logistics planning. This project aims to study two actual cases of humanitarian logistics, the first one (the strategic problem of facility location) is applied to the Vale do Paraíba Paulista, São Paulo, Brazil, and the second one (the tactical problem of distribution of food aid) is applied to Ethiopia. The expected contributions are the improvement of the current modeling of the cases and the inclusion of uncertainty into the problem using stochastic programming - which is considered as an important step forward to the work.
