Abstract

The aim of this proposal is to use SERS (Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering) spectroscopy on the investigation of the spontaneous phenomenon of adsorption (Self-Assembled Monolayer - SAM) of sulfur containing compounds on activated SERS substrate of gold (Au/SAM) and with gold nanoparticles (Au/SAM/AuNP). Structural information on the SAMs formed with organic sulfur molecules and with mono and polinuclear coordination compounds (complexes of Ru and/or Fe) will be acquired. Due to the charge transfer properties of some these compounds, these species can be considered as molecular wires. Therefore, based on the in situ SERS spectra (with applied potential), we intend to contribute to a better understanding of the electron transfer in molecular wires. It will be studied, also, the dependence of the SERS enhancement effect (EF) on the distance to the electrode, on the nature of the compounds and on the presence of nanoparticles. In addition, there is the intention to study SERS in the single molecule regime.
