Abstract

Natural ventilation is na effective comfort passive strategy, especially in hot and humid climates, reducing the use of air conditioning. Among the ventilation strategies, highlight the sheds, roof vents which air collecting or extracting, depending on its location in relation to prevailing winds. Despite great potential, this devices are little used by the national architecture, devido the scarcity technical data available to the designer, leading to error. Moreover, ofter the sheds are used to capture or extract air without a detailed analysis of the influence of the geometry of these elements in natural ventilation. However, highlight the work of architect João Filgueiras Lima, know Lele, whose sheds are present in most of his projects. This research believes that is possible, to optimize the performance of natural ventilation of extractors and captadors sheds by geometric studies. This aims is to evaluate the performance of different geometric configurations of extractors and captadors sheds, and propose specific sheds for collecting and extracting air, according to the geometry Fo this architectural elements. The analysis is done through the study of sheds geometry used by Lele. Their performance are evaluated through computer simulations using computational fluid dynamics (software Ansys CFX) and testing in wind tunnel. After that, based on these studies, new models will be proposed and guidelines for the construction of air collecting and extracting sheds, seeking these devices will be use by designers.
