Abstract

The aluminum toxicity is a major limiting productivity in acid soils and Si is an interesting way to minimize the Al3+ toxicity in plants, however, not yet know the mechanism involved in the interaction between Si and Al3+. The objectives underlying this work are: describe the sensitivity to Al3+ by rice cultivars currently used by upland farmers in Brazil; identification and quantification of organic acids of low molecular weight exudates of rice cultivars, measuring the effect of acid exudates in the complexation of Al3+; evaluate the interaction between Si and Al3+ by means of absorption kinetics of Si and Al3+ (Vmax, Km and Cmin) in plants of upland rice (culture accumulator Si) and castor bean (culture is not accumulating Si). Will be installed in three greenhouse experiments conducted in nutrient solution. All use a randomized block design with four replications. Experiment 1 - 2x10 arranged in factorial design, the treatments will be with and without Al3+ and 10 cultivars of upland rice. Experiment 2 - arranged in factorial design 2x4, treatments are two cultivars of upland rice (tolerant and not tolerant to Al3+) and combinations of Si and Al3+ (1-without Si and without Al3+; 2-with Si and without Al3+; 3- without Si and with Al3+, 4-with Si and with Al3+). Experiment 3 - arranged in factorial design 2x4, treatments are two cultivars of castor beans (tolerant and not tolerant to Al3+) and combinations of Si and Al3+ (1-without Si and without Al3+; 2-with Si and without Al3+; 3- without Si and with Al3+, 4-with Si and with Al3+).
