Abstract

Ship collisions and grounding continue to occur worldwide regardless of continuous efforts to prevent such accidents. Given the recent investments of the Brazilian government in the oil production sector and taking into account the increasing demand for safety at sea and protection of the environment, the consideration of ship collisions in the Brazilian ship industry is of crucial importance. The aim of this work is the numerical and experimental analysis of ship collision using reduced scaled models. Emphasis will be giving to the development of a material failure criterion capable to anticipating cargo spill. Evaluation of the mechanical properties, static and dynamic, of the naval materials used in Brazil will be performed. A ship collision event will also be studied in scaled models. Experimental tests of this event will be used as a reference and then modeled numerically using the finite element method.
