Abstract

Models for efficient packing of clusters, as proposed by Miracle, describe with some efficiency the structures found in metallic glasses. Such models are able to predict compositions with glass forming ability (GFA), however some compositions are not close to those observed experimentally. Generally considerations that take into account the structural defects of the clusters help to make the better relations between the models proposed and experimentally observed results. In this context, this doctoral project has as one of its goals the GFAs comparison of the alloys calculated by the criterion that combines the topological parameter of instability (»mín) and thermodynamic parameters (”h) with GFAs alloys determined by these same models efficient packing of clusters, as proposed by Miracle.Subsequently the structures of metal clusters present in the samples studied are made in order to be compared with those of existing theoretical models. The radial distribution function and electron microscopy of high resolution transmission will be the main tools for this study. (AU)
