Abstract

Alcohol consumption, often made in an abusive manner, amongst university students is a phenomenon observed in several countries, including Brazil. However, most of the information that we have come from cross-sectional studies in which risk factors and outcomes are simultaneously identified, making it impossible to assign the direction of causality. Aim: to estimate the incidence of risk drinking in a college student population, seeking to identify risk and protective factors associated with this outcome Method: This is a cohort study, in which will be analyzed data collected in the same population of students, when they were in their first year of the course (2006) and when they were at their senior year (2011). Both surveys used self-report questionnaires, using the registration number as the variable to identify each one of the subjects, thus enabling comparison. The investigated variables were: demographic information, course information, adapting to the city, support network, learning environment, and alcohol use. AUDIT was also used. The data shall be submitted to univariate analysis, having problematic use as the main outcome, identified by AUDIT. The significance level of p<0.05 shall be adopted and the data shall be submitted to multivariate analysis.(AU)
