Abstract

The objective of this study is to assess the capacity and quality of the cold chain for vaccine conservation in Basic Health Units (UBSs) located in the Southern and Central-Western regions of São Paulo city, Brazil. The study is justified because, recently, two new vaccines whose doses occupy a great space in the refrigerators were included in the Brazilian National Immunization calendar. This study will be conducted in association with the local health department (Secretaria Municipal da Saúde de São Paulo). Twenty-four UBSs will be evaluated: four in the district of Pinheiros, four in the district of Butantã, eight in Campo Limpo, and eight in M'Boi Mirim. This is a cross-sectional study that will be conducted through a structured interview with officials of the vaccination room and observation of the cold chain conditions by the researchers.(AU)
