Abstract

The T2 phase is a characteristic phase of the Mr5(Si or Ge)3-xBx, where Mr represents refractory metals and crystallizes in the Cr5B3 prototype structure. Superconductivity has been reported in the T2 phase recently in Mo5SiB2, W5SiB2, and Nb5Si3-cBx compounds. These discoveries open new possibilities for the investigation of superconductivity in other compounds that crystallize in the T2 phase. In this context, this project presents preliminary results which suggest a T2 phase in the Ta-Ge-B system that can present superconductivity with a critical temperature close to 3.4 K. Will discuss that the principal goal will be the determination of the T2 composition in the Ta-Ge-B system. Besides the determination of a new superconducting phase, the success of this work will allow an understanding of the equilibrium of some phases in the Ta-Ge-B system.(AU)
