Abstract This project will aim the study of 23 strains of Burkholderia andropogonis, important pathogen of 52 species from 15 families of plants economically important to the country as corn, sorghum, coffee, and ornamental plants like orchids, carnation among others, with wide geographical distribution. Other strains of this bacterial species will be acquired in international collections and included in this study in order to enlarge the host range. Due the complexity and pathogenic specialization and the few information about of the factors that determine the genetic diversity and pathogenic of the B. andropogonis, it is very important the differentiation of these strains, and polyphasic taxonomy studies may help in elucidating the infra-specific diversity, promoting understanding of the mechanisms involved in the interaction of bacteria with different hosts. The phenotypic and molecular characterization will be carried out with different genetic markers as 23SDNAr-16S spacer region, genes gyrB, rpoD and rpoB, and analysis of genetic diversity of strains by rep-PCR technique (BOX, ERIC and REP-PCR), and evaluation of pathogenicity in different groups of host plants by artificial inoculation on different hosts. | |
