Abstract Resin composites compositions have been modified in order to improve both aesthetics and properties, and these changes may occur in the organic portion and/or the inorganic content of these materials. The aim of this study is to evaluate five different resin composites with different formulations regarding: surface roughness after finishing and polishing procedures, polished surface analisys on scanning electron microscopy (MEV), and characteristics of filling particles. The composites to be evaluated include a conventional formulated resin composite (Z100, 3M ESPE), two nanoparticle composites (Filtek Z350, 3M ESPE e Estelite Sigma, Tokuyama), a composite resin with fluoride release properties (Beautiful II, Shofu) and a self-adhesive composite resin (Dyad Flow, Kerr). Finishing and polishing discs will be used according to manufacturer's recommendation (Sof-Lex - 3M ESPE). The specimens shall be prepared according to each methodology to be employed, and after 1 week and 6 months of storage (in water and brushing for 30,000 cycles) the surface roughness and surface morphology (by SEM) will be evaluated, except for the characterization of filling particles. The results will be tabulated and subjected to statistical analysis for comparison of results between experimental groups. | |
