Abstract

Nowadays, there are some practices that seem, in the midst of a so called "consumption society", to contradict the imperative of a "search for pleasure" and ritualize the self-inflicted body suffering. Our hypothesis is that, although this fact may be considered as a kind of reaction against the contemporary way of life, related to the phenomena that Marx had described as "fetishism", it is still given in a fetishist form.
