Abstract

Prochilodus lineatus is a kind of wide occurrence in the upper basin of the Parana River. Cytogenetically, P. lineatus showed a diploid number of 54 chromosomes of meta/submetacentric types, and the presence of up to nine B chromosomes. In all populations of P. lineatus met polymorphism due to the presence of B chromosomes, where can find three types of B microchromosomes: B-acrocentric, B-metacentric and B-submetacentric. Even today there are only speculations about their function, origin and inheritance, which makes the analysis of DNA structure of this chromosomal type, as well as the study of the inheritance pattern of extreme importance. Given the occurrence of supernumerary chromosomes in P. lineatus is intended to analyze the inheritance of supernumerary chromosomes of curimbatás, will be held in crosses of this species, kept in the CEPTA/ICMBio, captured in the natural population of the Mogi-Guaçu River (Pirassununga, SP). The priority for the development of crosses is the formation of non-carrier couples involving specimens of both sexes to investigate a possible variation in the pattern of inheritance of supernumerary, and will be held population surveys in order to ascertain the maintenance of supernumerary in this species. In addition, will conduct a thorough study of DNA composition of different supernumeraries types found in P. lineatus, through the construction of specific probes for B chromosomes using the technique of chromosome microdissection and subsequent fluorescence in situ hybridization. Thus, these data will contribute to a better understanding of the evolution, transmission, fixation and origin of B chromosomes in the carrier species.
