Abstract

The aim of this project is to characterize and differentiate river, estuarine and marine sub-environments, in the Río de La Plata - South Atlantic Ocean gradient using a multi-proxies analysis. This analysis combines the use of bio-indicator organisms and geo-chemical proxies. Among these, proxies of terrigenous input (Al and Ti, Fe/Ca and Ti/Ca ratios), organic matter origin (´13C, ´15N and C/N ratio), productivity (Corg content, Nt, CaCO3, P, Ca, Ba, and Al/Ti, Fe/Al, Ba/Al and Ba/Ti ratios), hydrodinamic energy (gran-size, mean diameter and sorting) andbenthic foraminifera assamblages as bioindicators will be used. This project will allow to synthesize the information obtained through these proxies, make them available in future paleo-environmental analysis, of that particular area.
