Abstract

The project aims to estimate a number of population genetic parameters in isolates ("quilombo" remnants) from Vale do Ribeira, through the analysis of their mating structure (with special emphasis on the determination of inbreeding levels), measures of population substructuring and ethnic composition. This will be achieved through the genealogical analysis of isolates and the frequencies of DNA markers, blood groups and C and S hemoglobin genes. Some among the introductory steps of this project were already performed in the project of "Iniciação Científica" (FAPESP process 2009/15975-1) of the student and should be completed during his post-graduate studies.
