Abstract

In this work we will study the thermic and osmotic tolerance in tadpoles of the Thoropa complex (Anura: Cycloramphydae) which live in areas near the Atlantic Coast in the Juréia Ecological Station (São Paulo State), where presumably face a thermal and osmotic stress in such habitat. Both temperature and osmotic concentration can change muscle activity in animals and, therefore, directly influence their behavior. We will evaluate the effects of temperature and osmotic concentration of the medium on the locomotor performance of the tadpoles, as well as the maximum activity of the enzyme citrate synthase as an indicator of their aerobic capacity. Measurements of urea and total protein contents in whole body will be performed in order to evaluate the responses to osmotic gradient by the larvae of Thoropa sp. This work will be conducted in the Metabolic Physiology Lab. at the Federal University of São Paulo Campus Diadema. (AU)
