Abstract

Amino acids are the building blocks of life, from tissues to cell receptors, the amino acids are found in their composition. Therefore the capacity to analyze this type of molecules is of extreme importance. The analysis should be able to determine since the molecular structure up to their presence, even in small concentrations, from the most different sources. To choose a technique that allows this study is an important issue to researchers. One of the most important techniques used to quantify molecules in complex samples is chromatography. The versatility of this technique is known for decades, which also brings to researchers an enormous amount of pressure to find and develop new possible applications to this technique. However, chromatography has a limited use due to cost and sensitivity to quantify amino acids. The aim of this work is to improve the sensitivity of electrochemical detection allied to liquid-chromatography, with the use of copper alloy electrodes. This new purpose will reduce costs related to the equipment and also the use can be supported by the oxidative capacity of copper in biomolecules, which is well known in the literature, such as the limits related to the use of copper as an electrode. With the electrochemical studies and after coupling to the chromatographic system with the copper alloy electrode we aim at the development of a simpler system to determine amino acids trough liquid chromatography with amperometric detection. The copper alloy electrodes shall become a low cost solution to amino acids detection, without needing the post column derivatizations.
