Abstract

Organic agriculture uses cleaner production processes, avoiding contamination and environmental degradation. Although still not significant in Brazil, its relevance is, however, growing, following a trend seen in other countries. In this way, this study will help to raise issues pertinent to the subject, now scarce in the literature and contribute to the dissemination of organic agriculture in the country. This research aims to analyze the process of converting systems of conventional production to organic system. To do so, will be utilized the methodology of bibliographical and field research applied to organic farmers in the central region of São Paulo, whether they are producers who have already obtained certification of its products or which are still undergoing conversion to organic farming. The approach proposed in this research will focus on understanding all aspects of organic production, with emphasis on the certification process; identifying the characteristics of producers certifying companies.
