Abstract

The task of multi-document summarization aims at automatically producing a unique summary from a group of texts on the same topic. Given the incredible amount of information currently available, especially online, this task is of great importance. In this research plan, we propose to adapt and explore a classical technique for summarization. In particular, continuing the student's previous work (also with support from FAPESP), we propose to explore strategies for building summaries based on the relationship maps introduced by Salton et al. (1997), which attempt to represent in the summary the main subtopics in the source texts at the same time that preserves the summary informativeness. We believe that this technique may produce good summaries. The work will be developed and evaluated for texts in Portuguese, continuing the research already conducted in the research community in Brazil.(AU)
