Abstract

This project is part of a larger project toward a better understanding of sedimentation, morphogenesis and Cenozoic tectonics of the das Cinzas river hydrographic basin, northern Paraná. The proposed objectives relate to the identification, mapping at 1:50,000 scale and morphological characterization of occurrences of Quaternary deposits in the das Cinzas river hydrographic basin (northern Parana), specifically in the area corresponding to the IBGE topographical "Santo Antonio daPlatina" scale 1:50,000 (Sheet SF 22-ZC-II-4/MI-2760-4) as well as any buried soils and paleosols associated with such deposits. A systematic analysis of processes occurring during the Cenozoic is of utmost importance for understanding the current geomorphological dynamics, as the successive phenomena contributed significantly in the sculpture of the current landscape and sediment deposition. Studies of Cenozoic Southeast and Southern Brazil have advanced considerably in recent years, however broad and deep understanding of the evolutionary framework that links the Cenozoic tectonic, sedimentary and morphogenetic still needs scientific contributions, and specifically in the area of the basin river of das Cinzas such integrated and interdisciplinary studies are rare. The proposed study involves a multidisciplinary approach in which methods and techniques will be used to address geological, geomorphological, pedological, with emphasis on sedimentary deposits and paleosols/Quaternary buried soils.
