Abstract

This project aims to study long term solar wind-magnetosphere coupling during HILDCAA events. In the proposed project an attempt will be made to derive a list of HILDCAAs for the period from 1957 to 2011. The time period (1957-2011) corresponds to five complete (11-year) solar cycles (19-23). The list can be utilized to study different statistical aspects of HILDCAAs, like the dependence of HILDCAAs on the solar cycle, solar activity phases and their annual/seasonal variations. There is also scope to study the variabilities, if any, in the characteristics of HILDCAAs - in terms of duration, peak intensity, integrated energy input, etc. - during different phases of solar activity and seasons. These characteristics can be compared for HILDCAAs preceded by geomagnetic storms and HILDCAAs not related to any geomagnetic storms.
