Abstract

Halitosis is defined as a change characterized by bed odors emanating from the oral cavity. This has a close relationship with dysgeusia, which represents change or loss of taste. The aim of this study is to evaluate the emotional profile of patients after treatment of halitosis that persists with the complaint of dysgeusia and the impact on their quality of life as well as to evaluate anxiety and depression. Sixty patients will be evaluated according to the groups consisting of 20 patients each: group 1 - post-treatment of halitosis complaining of dysgeusia, group 2 - patients with halitosis before treatment, and group 3 - patients without halitosis or complaint of dysgeusia. Groups 2 and 3are equivalent to group 1 in age and gender. The rating scales to be used are Generic Assessment Questionnaire Quality of Life - Medical Outcomes Study 36 - Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), Anxiety Inventory - trait and state (STAI t/s), and Self-Report Questionnaires-20 (SRQ-20). The data will be analyzed by Student's t test, Z test for comparison of proportions, and chi-square test. The level of significance for all statistical tests will be 5%.(AU)
