Morphology of the digestive tract of mocó (Kerodon rupestris, WIED, 1820): anatomical histological and ultrastructural study

Abstract

The knowledge of morphology provides the basis for surgery, clinical pathology, as well as for biological management of wild animals. Due to the dearth of literature on anatomical and morphological studies of mocó digestive tract, we propose to study and analyze the components of this device, so that we can, using data obtained in this research, acquire better basic knowledge of anatomy and histology and compare them with the animals of the same suborder (hystricomorphs) and other domestic mammals species. For this study will be used 08 adult mocós that are already fixed in formaldehyde solution 10%. The specimens are stored in formaldehyde tanks in the Anatomy laboratory, from Veterinary Medicine Faculty - FMVZ - USP. All material was previously collected at the Center for Wild Animals Multiplication of Semi-Arid Farm Federal University, from dissertations and theses have already been defended in the Department of Surgery Faculty. All animals will be dissected and described anatomically, and further will be performed light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy analyses. Wild Brazilian Animals Anatomy information might provide important information for the Forensic Veterinary Medicine, still very poorly studied in Brazil.(AU)
