Abstract

It is proposed, by this research project, the evaluation of the effects of high-performance macro and micromachining on the surface integrity of ultrafine-grained materials. It will be investigated the microstructure and microhardness of the material of parts. The machining tests will be based on a CNC Hermle machining Center. The selected machining operations can be top milling or facing, without the use of cutting fluid. The cutting tools involved will be compatible with the research proposals, in order to tolerate the high speed involved in high-performance machining tests. The cutting parameters will be defined in pre-tests and will be based on the usual values of each cutting tool, according to specialized sources.(AU)
