Abstract

Many athletes joined the use of Kinesio taping for therapeutic purposes, to prevent future injuries, and to improve their performance. In this way, the aims of this study are to evaluate the influence of Kinesio taping on muscle strength and electrical activity of the rectus femoris in healthy athletes. Fourteen athletes, soccer players male from Franca city, will have as a protocol the application of Kinesio Taping on the rectus femoris muscle of one lower limb and placebo tape (3M Micropore) in the opposed lower limb (sham). The application of the tapes will be randomly assigned, in which half the participants (n=7) will receive Kinesio taping in the right thigh and the other half (n=7) receive Kinesio taping in the left thigh. The electrical activity of the rectus femoris will be evaluated by surface electromyography (EMGs), with two electrodes positioned on the belly of the rectus femoris muscle. To assess the strength of the rectus muscle will be held the muscle strength testing with a load cell attached to the ankle. For data analysis, will be used the results of the Root Mean Square (RMS) of the WinDaq software. For data collection of surface electromyography and muscle strength testing with load cell, each participant will perform three maximal voluntary isometric contractions (MVIC) in each lower limb before applying the tape, immediately after application, and 24 hours later. Will be calculated the mean of the three samples of MVIC and EMG and load cell during the pre-established period.(AU)
