Abstract

The first step involves sample preparation, in which the student will prepare polifluorene and PPV solutions in various solvents, as well as blends with PMMA and PS. The samples will be subsequently characterized by various steady-state electronic and vibrational spectroscopies, and photon correlation spectroscopy. The second step entails ultrafast spectroscopy measurements of these samples, as well as curve fitting, kinetic modeling, and global analysis. The femtosecond spectroscopy measurements will be performed with home-built instruments. The comprehensive experimental and data analysis approach will hopefully allow us to identify the fundamental molecular motions that couple to excitonic energy transfer in conjugated polymers.
