Abstract

The study aims to correlate physiological parameters of ketamine-xylazine combination, established by allometric scaling among a reference animal and three wild felids. The four groups will be as follows: the reference group (GR), formed by six domestic cats with an average weight of 4 kg, the target group 1 (GA1), formed by six ocelots weighing between 10 and 15 kg, the target group 2 (GA2), formed by six cougars weighing between 60 and 80 kg and the target-group 3 (GA3), formed by six lions weighing between 150 and 250 kg. The animals will receive a ketamine-xylazine combination by IM route. GR will receive literature-established doses and GAs doses will be calculated by allometric scaling, based on GR. Latency time (0 min), quality of induction, duration of anesthesia, quality of recovery from anesthesia, heart rate, blood pressures, respiratory rate, body temperature, pH, blood gases, and electrolytes will be evaluated. It will be expected that allometric scaling to be efficient to establish doses of ketamine-xylazine combination for GAs. Besides, it will be expected that allometric doses provide a better physiological pattern than the literature-established doses in GA3.(AU)
