Abstract

Strangles is considered to be the most common disease of equines. In the last decades, the antimicrobial treatment of disease is based on penicillin. Currently, ceftiofur has been used in the USA as an alternative to therapy. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the antimicrobial sensitivity profile (disk diffusion) and minimal inhibitory concentration of penicillin and ceftiofur against 40-50 Streptococcus equi sub esp. equi and Streptococcus equi subesp. zooepidemicus, allied to other drugs. Furthermore, the study also will evaluate the multiple drug resistance of isolates.(AU)
