Abstract

Leptospirosis is a zoonosis caused by genus Leptospira spp. bacteria. The reservoirs are both domestic and wild animals, which reveal important elements in the chain of transmission, due to his acquaintance with the humans. However there are few studies about the biochemical changes caused by this bacterium in different organs and systems, especially with regard to wild animals. The aim of this study is to evaluate the hepatic and renal biochemical profiles of free-living wild animals that show antibody titers against serovars of Leptospira spp. The subproject research will be part of an epidemiological study of leptospirosis, whose general objective is to research this illness in free-living wild animals, domestic animals and humans in family farming properties in the ten major Brazilian biomes. Thus, blood samples will be collected from free-living wild animals during field activities, whose serum samples are intended to carry use in this study. The activities of serum aspartate aminotransferase and alanine amino transferase will be studied by Reitman - Frankel method, alkaline phosphatase by modified Roy method, gamma-glutamyl transferase spectrophotometric by modified method Szsaz, urea kinetic by modified diacetyl-monoxima method and creatinine by Lustosa-Basques method, total and direct serum bilirubin by Sims Horn method, and the rate of indirect bilirubin will be obtained by the difference between total and direct bilirubin. Statistical analysis of data obtained for the different characteristics of serum from different wild species will be performed with the aid of the statistical program MINITAB Release 14.(AU)
