Abstract

This research intends to trace and recover information about the private collection known as Sertorio Museum, which became Paulista Museum's first main collection. This collection, which turned out to be a private museum in São Paulo, belonged to Colonel Joaquim Sertorio. This museum became famous in the second half of the 19th century, showing up in the local press and on travelers diaries. The collection was donated to São Paulo estate in 1890, from which Paulista Museum was created; it officially opened in 1895 at the Ipiranga Monument. This project is part of the Research Project in Material Cultural History - History of Museums and Collections at Paulista Museum-USP. (AU)
