Abstract

Urinalysis is a very important exam in veterinary medicine, able to detect changes in both the urinary tract and in other systems. This examination is divided into three parts: physical examination, chemical, and sedimentology. The first two parts are simple, but the third part is a little more work but may result subjective, depending on the experience of someone who does, and how the results are expressed. This study aims to compare three methods of evaluating the urinary sediment, the conventional method, adopted by ABNT, Neubauer chamber, and obtained by the slide of urinary sediment analysis (Kova system). For this purpose, urine samples, obtained by spontaneous voiding, of 40 healthy dogs will be evaluated by three methods of urinary sedimentology assay. The results obtained by the conventional method, expressed in a large field element evaluated (CGA), are compared with those obtained on the Neubauer chamber and slide of urinary sediment analysis (Kova system), whose result is expressed in elements per milliliter (mL) of urine.
