Abstract The formation of impact craters is known as one of the fastest geological processes on Earth. Its rarity, combined with its speed and scale, prevents the actual observation of such event, which leads to the generation of mathematical models capable of expressing the deformation undergone by the target rocks. In this sense the program ISALE (Simplified Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian) was developed by several international researchers in order to understand the process of formation of these structures based on physical and geological information pre-existing.Only six impact structures have been diagnosed in Brazil: Araguainha (MT-GO), Vargeão (SC), Serra Cangalha (TO), Riachão (MA), Vista Alegre (PR) and Cerro Jarau (RS), and other structures that are potential impact craters, such as Santa Marta/PI. From the geological knowledge of these craters that have been accumulated by the research group which the proposer join, this project aims to carry out the numerical modeling for the structures of Araguainha, Riachão, Vargeão by using the program iSALE-2D. For the structure of the Serra Cangalha models will be matched by using the program iSALE-3D in order to complement the 2D analysis already performed in the proposer's PhD thesis. Finally, this project proposes to carry out the gravimetric and magnetic modeling for the Santa Marta structure in order to provide geophysical subsidies that contribute to the understanding of its origin. | |
