Abstract

The Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disease, X-linked characterized by mutation of the dystrophin gene, affecting children in the first two decades of life, whose main feature is the weakening and wasting of muscles. The main respiratory muscle affected is the diaphragm, which is responsible for 80% of the cause "of death." The use of mechanical forces that act on the body or intermittent pressure in the airways has improved the quality of life of patients, but does not prevent the progression of respiratory failure. Similarly the human DMD mdx model despite a milder phenotype, it has serious effects on the diaphragm, favoring the use of this model in respiratory implications. Given the need to establish a critical component to evaluate the effectiveness of experiments and expand the possibilities of pre-clinical trials aimed to establish, evaluate and compare the muscle strength and passive properties of the diaphragm muscle of mdx model mice and males with C57BL10 1, and 18 months of 6.12 idade.Será performed in all animals diaphragm test isometric tetanus test, elastic and viscous properties, with analysis by light microscopy and transmission electron. The variables are found statistically analyzed for multiple comparisons and variations will be considered heterogeneous.
