Abstract

This research questions about the possibilties of "self-reinvention" started by the women's artistic practice, with focus in the extensive and critical art production of the french artist Louise Bourgeois (1911, Paris - 2010, New York). Deceased recently, her exhibition Louise Bourgeois: O retorno do desejo proibido ( The return of the forbidden desire) was in Brazil, in 2011. Autobiographical dimension will be addressed visibly present in her art practice, exploring her visual poetic themes from the body, the desire and the sexuality. In a explanatory key turned to the Foucault's notion of self-writing, We intent to explore autobiographical practice from a post-struturalism perspective, pursuing their libertarian senses of "self-reinvention". It is, thus, to contrast it to confession, or its modern conception of revelation of the "Self" as the essence. The research will be guided in terms of theory and methodology by feminist cultural critique presented in the writings of Norma Telles, Chloë Taylor, Nelly Richard, among others, and by studies of Michel Foucault about "self-writing" and "arts of existence".
