Abstract

This project is part of the master's project of the student, which propose to evaluate a method to reconstruct the Brazil Current Mesoscale dynamics from sea surface temperature (SST), by using a Surface Quasi-geostrophic (SQG) model. Here, we propose some improvements in the method, which includes taking into account the interior potential vorticity (PV). To do that, we propose to obtain a correlation between the sea surface density and the interior PV. The PV equation will be inverted to obtain surface and subsurface velocity fields. The results will be compared against that from the application of the classical SQG and agains current meters mooring data. This project provides a collaboration with Dr. Amit Tandon (UMASSD), a specialist in upper ocean dynamics. (AU)
