Abstract

This project aims at an internship abroad as a complementary stage of a master's degree research in progress named "Description and morphological analysis of Physical Therapy terminology: contribution to a morphological database of Brazilian Portuguese terminologies". The goal of this research is to do the description of Physical Therapy terminological repertory at the internal level of its terms, observing the main processes of terms construction. Furthermore, we intend to organize a database of Brazilian Portuguese terminologies, which will contain a detailed description of the most frequent processes. From this morphological description, we will organize a data base that must contain the frequent Word Formation Rules (WFR), so that it will be possible a further computational implementation. This activity is important because the results will significantly improve the task of automatic terminology extraction as we're going to be able to incorporate linguistic knowledge in the tool. Thus, one of the stages foreseen in the initial project would be done during the internship period. The "Institute for Theoretical and Computational Linguistics" - (ILTEC), situated in Lisbon, Portugal, has been chosen for the internship because our master research co-advisor, Margarita Correia, is the vice-president of the board and the researcher coordinator of the "Lexicon and Computational Modelling group". She also has expertise in SILEX Model (CORBIN, 1987, 1991, 1997, 2004), which will be used as theoretical basis. (AU)
