Abstract

There is strong evidence that interventions to promote self-care are very effective in the management of chronic conditions such as tuberculosis (TB). In order to enhance adherence and minimize default to treatment, supported self-care supported should be promoted, focused on empowerment of individuals to participate in their care management and identifying / solving problems in chronic condition care. Thus, this study aim to assess self-care and treatment adherence of TB patients in São José do Rio Preto - SP. It is a cross-sectional epidemiological study that be composed of all TB patients being treated in the city from March 2012 to February 2013. Data will be collected by through interviews, using structured forms 4: I - Characterization of patients and treatment of TB, II - Scale for analysis of TB patients' self-care, III - Scale for analysis of actions developed by health services to promote self-care (II and III prepared based on the Partners in Health scale) and IV - Scale to measure adherence to treatment of TB (prepared based on the instrument Measurement of Adherence to Treatment). The items of the form I will be analyzed by exploratory analysis techniques. For each item of forms II, III and IV indicators will be developed indicators and later self-care and adherence to treatment will be ranked based on scores. The association between the classification of self-care and adherence to treatment will be verified by the chi-square test. To analyze the contribution of the original variables of the forms II, III and IV will be used Analysis of Principal Components.
