Abstract

Thyroid hormones act in all organs and metabolic pathways of the human body. They exert their functions through binding to TR and TR-± and ² receptors. T3 and TRIAC, which have a greater affinity for TR-² than T4, appear to stimulate epidermal proliferation, dermal thickening, and hair growth when used topically. In this context, natural and synthetic TR-² ligands have emerged as a promising new dermopharmacologic strategy to revert skin atrophy. In this project, we aim to study the effects of the hormone TRIAC in rat intact and atrophied skin. Our research hypothesis focuses on the possible differences in the action of this ligand as a function of differences in TR-² selectivity and nanoencapsulation. To prove this hypothesis, animals will receive a topical application of the ligand in intact skin and after the development of skin atrophy induced by the glucocorticoid clobetasol propionate®. The analysis of the results will be by histological analysis, and the histological parameters to be studied are the overall process of tissue repair and density of collagen type I, III, and total. Results will be presented as mean ± SEM. Analysis of variance will be made among the groups, followed by the Newman-Keuls test or by t-test, based on the number of sets of variables. The significance level will be set at 5%.(AU)
