Abstract

Excessive consumption of soft drinks in Brazil and in the world has contributed to the incoming of dental erosion. With it, the search of preventive measures or measures that reduce enamel dissolution potential caused by the low pH of this kind of drink. Results of previous studies showed that the cola light soda presented an erosion potential significantly lower compared to the cola normal soda. Some studies found a protective affect of some metals when added to soft drinks. Most recently, a cola soda in light version hit the market containing the metals zinc and magnesium in its formulation. These results led to the hypothesis that this beverage could promote an erosion protection, when combined to the light version, which presented a protective effect in previous studies whit metals and proven effect as well. According to this datum, this project aims study the erosion effect in vitro of the Coca-cola Light Plus® version compared to the normal formulation. For this 84 blocks of bovine enamel will be divided in two groups according to the drink (G1-Coca cola®, G2-Coca-cola light plus®). The blocks will be subjected to 3 diary desmineralization circles (refrigerant-5 min) and remineralization circles (artificial saliva-120 min), and the enamel surface loss will be evaluated through profilometry. Data will be subjected to appropriate statistic analysis (p < 0,05) (AU)
